20.08.14

Very few times have I experienced rain like today. Monsoon season on Jeju is quite something. It poured all day, from the start of our lovely walk, to our waterfall adventure (as much water was pouring from the sky as from the fall), until we gave up and found an art gallery to hide in.

Actually, it was very fortunate because at the falls we saw a poster in the information center for the very exhibition I had wanted to show Mum since last year. It was Kasuma Yayoi's wonderful spots. I knew Mum would love it and I wasn't wrong. We had a lot of fun.

When it was time to leave we donned out ponchos once again and braved it for ten minutes before turning around and asking for a taxi. It wasn't possible all the way out in the mountains where we were, apparently, and so the museum we wanted to visit next came and picked us up. A very kind man at the gallery arranged it on his personal cellphone for us.

After learning about the incredible man Da Vinci was at the museum (seriously, did he ever have a day off!?), we asked for a taxi to get home. Once again we were met with a troubled look and an offer of kindness. The lady behind the counter told us to wait until closing time and she would drop us off.

It was amazing, really. They really went out of their way for us and we were so, so grateful. Mum said she hoped that New Zealanders would show her the same hospitality if she ever went and I hope so too!

Oops.

She's strange, but I love her.
